About West End Brisbane
In the Inner Southern Suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland
West End is an inner southern suburb in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
With a population of 9474 people as of 2016 and continuously growing at an increasing rate each year, West End is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after suburbs for families looking to start life with their children close to shops and schools while still maintaining that inner suburban feel we all know so well!
The Aboriginal name for the area is Kurilpa, which means place of the water rat.
The West End has a fantastic selection of cafes and restaurants. It’s also where you can find the best shopping in Brisbane, with unique stores that sell everything from ethnic produce to organic groceries.
The area is known for its farmers’ markets every Saturday, also known as Green Flea Markets. They’re a great way to spend your weekend morning breakfasting on delicious food while getting some fresh air and exercise.
Is West End Brisbane safe?
You look at most area’s around Brisbane CBD and the suburbs around them, and you get homeless or lower social and economic pockets. Street kids and homeless exist but generally, it’s pretty safe. Plenty of bars and pubs, so expect the usual street crime of such areas in a regular inner-city suburb.

“This is a beautiful little restaurant. Thai is my favourite cuisine and as a result I can’t get enough of this place. I have tried their Pad Thai and their special of the month pork belly. Both absolutely delicious and of high quality. The waitress that served me was very friendly. Highly recommended to all that love good food that is full of flavour.”

Tripadvisor Reviews
“Always a pleasure
We visit Gala Thai at least once when we are in Brisbane. It has become our favourite Thai Restaurant in Brisbane.
Ask for the food cooked to your taste by adding a comment to the order on the tablet or talk to person, and the chef will accommodate your wishes, (like green Paw Paw salad to your taste or not to add ingredients you don’t like).
BYO wine is a bonus.”
