The University of Western Australia (UWA) is a public research institution in the Australian state of Western Australia. The main campus is in Perth, the state capital, with a second campus in Albany and other locations throughout the state.

The University of Western Australia is the sixth-oldest institution in Australia and was the only institution in Western Australia until Murdoch University was founded in 1973. UWA is referred to as a “sandstone university,” which refers to the oldest university in each state because of its age and reputation.

The university is also a member of several more organized groups, including the Group of Eight and the Matariki Network of Universities.
