Now that we know what it is, let’s learn how to make it!

Ingredients

  • Sushi Rice
  • 2 cups white short-grain white rice
  • sesame seeds
  • 3 cups water
  • 1/3 cup / 5 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1/8 cup cane sugar
  • 1 tbsp avocado oil
  • nori sheets
  • pinch of salt

Instructions

Making the sushi rice

  1. Combine rice and water in a saucepan over medium-high heat and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes or until all the water has been absorbed. Or you can use a rice cooker for cooking the rice.
  2. While rice cooks, in a small saucepan, combine rice vinegar, sesame seeds, avocado oil, cane sugar, and salt. Cook for about 8 minutes on low heat or until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  3. Pour mixture into cooked sushi rice. Stir rice till the medicine is absorbed.
  4. Let cool.

Making the rolls

  1. Working with a clean cutting board, lay the nori sheet rough side down. Spread the rice equally over the sheet, leaving 1/2 inch of space at the top.
  2. Arrange the slices across the center of the rice.
  3. Carefully lift the end of the nori sheet (not the 1/2 inch empty side), roll over the avocado, and roll again. To assist seal, moisten the end of the nori sheet with a bit of water.
  4. Set aside and continue with the remaining nori sheets, rice, and avocado.
  5. Using a sharp knife, cut rolls up into 6-8 pieces.
  6. Serve with soy sauce or your favorite sushi condiments. Enjoy!
