About

GPA stands for Grade Point Average. A GPA is the number of grades divided by the total number of credits you earned.

The higher your GPA, the better!

How to Calculate GPA in Australia

You can calculate GPA by dividing the Grade Points achieved by the Credit Points achieved for each term/year/program.

A grade point average is not used below a tertiary level in Australia. The general formula is as follows:

Other higher education institutions, such as the University of Melbourne, University of New South Wales, University of Sydney, and the University of Wollongong, employ a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) for similar purposes as a GPA.

The WAM is calculated based on the raw percentage grades received by the student rather than grade points like High Distinction or Distinction.

Australia WAM to GPA

What is WAM?

The WAM (Weighted Average Mark) is the average mark you’ve earned throughout the units you’ve completed in your award course.

Rather than grade points such as High Distinction or Distinction, it’s calculated based on raw percentage grades received by the student.

WAM 70 to GPA

There is no WAM to GPA calculator since different universities can have different GPA standards.

However, as an illustration, according to the list above, the grade scale of WAM 70 is Credit. So, the GPA is 5.

ATAR to GPA Converter

What is ATAR?

ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) is a rank that measures a student’s overall academic achievement concerning that of other students.

A number between 0.00 and 99.95 indicates a student’s position relative to all the students in their age group (ie all 16 to 20-year-olds in NSW).

So, an ATAR of 80.00 means that you are 20 percent from the top of your age group (not your Year 12 group).

ATAR GPA Equivalent

Can we convert GPA to ATAR Australia?

No, we cannot convert ATAR to GPA or vice versa because they are of different types of systems.

GPA is a grading scale. While ATAR is rank, not a mark.
