• Add ham steak to pan and sear both sides for about 3 minutes per side.
• Remove ham steak from pan and set aside.
• Reduce heat to low and pour 1/4 cup water into the pan.
• Cover the pan and let simmer for 5-10 minutes.
• Once ham steak is tender, slice and serve.
Honey Glazed Ham Steak Recipe
This recipe is great for Easter and Christmas gatherings or just a weeknight meal. It can also be used as a leftover ham recipe.
It is fried on the stovetop, freeing oven space for your side dishes.
- 1 tablespoon vegetable or olive oil or 1 tablespoon of butter (omit if baking)
- 1 pound fully cooked boneless or bone-in ham steak, patted dry*
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon pineapple juice (from canned pineapple tidbits)
- 1-2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 cup canned pineapple or crushed pineapple, drained
There are two ways to cook ham steak: fried on the stovetop and baked in the oven. You can’t go wrong with either method.
It depends on other dishes you are making with your ham steak dinner.
To Fry Ham Steak
- In a 12-inch skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the ham and cook until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
- Flip and cook the other side until brown, about 1-2 minutes. Transfer to a plate and keep warm.
- Meanwhile, combine the glaze ingredients in a medium mixing bowl: honey, pineapple juice, brown sugar, mustard, and paprika.
- Turn the heat down to low and pour the honey mixture into the empty pan. Cook for 1 minute, tilting the pan so that the brown sugar glaze covers the pan’s surface.
- Add the ham back to the pan, coating one side with the sauce—Cook for 1 minute.
- Flip and coat the other side with the glaze—Cook 1 minute.
- Add the pineapple tidbits and stir into the glaze.
- Serve ham with pineapple and the remaining glaze on top. Remove ham from the pan, then spoon over the pineapple.
To Bake Ham Steak
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. For easy cleanup, line a baking sheet with foil. Grease the foil lightly.
- To make the steak glaze in a medium mixing dish, whisk together the honey, pineapple juice, brown sugar, mustard, and paprika.
- Add ham to the baking dish and spoon over the sauce, ensuring it’s completely covered. Add pineapple on top.
- Bake uncovered for 20-30 minutes or until heated through and brown.
