- Cool cakes in pans on wire racks for 10 minutes; remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.
- To make the frosting: In a large bowl, beat 1 cup butter on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add 6 cups of confectioners’ sugar; beat until smooth.
- Add 1/4 cup milk and one teaspoon vanilla extract; beat until smooth. Spread frosting between cooled cake layers and over the top and sides of the cake.
