About London Broil

What is London Broil?

The London broil is a beef dish that is seasoned and broiled before being cut across the grain into thin strips. Despite its name, the meal and phrase are from North America rather than Britain.

The dish is a cut of beef from the top round muscle. London broil has an even thickness throughout and is lean, with only small pockets of fat marbling within the meat.

The London broil is an inexpensive way to create a complete meal out of a cut of meat. It used to traditionally refer only to flank steak. But now is typically made of lean and tougher cuts of meat like top round which we are using for this air fryer.

Since the London broil is tougher than the top round, it needs to be heated quickly and cooked hot for perfect results. It is marinated to keep it juicy and tender and then air-dried to perfection. Medium rare for me. Keep cooking for well done or medium-well.

What is broiling?

Broiling is a type of cooking that cooks food by exposing food to direct radiant heat, either on a grill over live coals or below a gas burner or electric coil.

Broiling steak differs from roasting and baking in that the food is turned during the process to cook one side at a time.

In this process, the meat gets cooked by direct exposure to dry heat coming from above and below instead of surrounding it in moisture like steaming or boiling does.

What does London Broil taste like?

The taste is very simple with no real strong flavors. London broil has a mild beef flavor which usually goes well with salt and pepper seasoning. It can be seasoned beforehand or marinated for added flavor.

Some people like to grill the vegetables separately before adding them to this dish, but I prefer cooking mine in the same pan as my London broil.

However, if you feel that the vegetables are not yet cooked through enough for your liking then you can also separate them into a different pan and cook them until they’re done to your satisfaction before adding them back on top of the London Broil.

Why do we eat London Broil?

At the market, London Broil is typically a less expensive cut of meat. It might be any of several cuts, including top round, flank, or skirt steak. Due to its leaner nature, London Broil is generally a little more difficult to chew. Marinate your meat for an excellent broil.

Is London Broil healthy?

Yes! London broil is one of the best cuts because it’s leaner than beef steak. Since London Broil has very little marbling, this cut tends to be healthier and contains less saturated fat than others like rib-eye or T-bone steaks, very low in carbs and high in protein, making it perfect for a Keto Diet. It’s also known to be healthier than most cuts of beef because this one has less saturated fat and more lean muscle tissue than most others.

Is London Broil good for the keto diet?

Yes! This cut of meat is very low in carbs and high in protein, making it perfect for a Keto Diet. It’s also known to be healthier than most cuts of beef because this one has less saturated fat and more lean muscle tissue than most others.

Where to buy London Broil?

You can buy London Broil at your local butcher or find it in the meat aisle of some grocery stores.

Some people prefer to purchase their meats online, directly from a farm. This way they are getting grass-fed beef that has never been handled by another party and is free of hormones and antibiotics.

How Do You Cook London Broil

How do you usually cook London broil?

London Broil is usually cooked with high heat in a hot pan or on the grill. The meat should be seared on all sides, then set aside and finished off using lower heat. Some people prefer grilling their London broil while others prefer to use an oven for this recipe.

Cooking London broil in the oven

The best way to prepare your meat is by cooking it on medium-high heat in some sort of pan or skillet. If you are using an oven, then preheat that first so that your meat cooks evenly on all sides.

When broiling your London Broil, be sure to place it on the middle rack of your oven. Then preheat the broiler for about fifteen minutes before adding your meat. Once you do add your meat make sure that it is at least six inches away from the heat source and cook each side for three minutes or until browned.

Cooking London broil on the grill

First, you want to preheat your grill for about fifteen minutes. Then oil the rack and place it on top of the grill before adding in your meat.

Once again, cooking time will depend on how thick or thin you cut your London broil into but ten minutes per side should be enough time to cook this dish all the way through.

How to marinate London broil?

First, you will want to cut your London Broil into equal-sized portions. Then place each portion into a zip lock bag and add one cup of red wine vinegar or balsamic vinegar along with two tablespoons of olive oil. Seal the bags up tightly and refrigerate overnight for best results.

When marinating your meat, try not to let the bag touch any other food to avoid cross-contamination. Once you remove it from its bath of vinegar and oil make sure that you pat it dry before cooking as excess moisture can cause flare-ups while cooking your London Broil in the air fryer.

How long does London Broil take?

The London Broil needs to cook for twenty minutes if you are broiling it. This will give the meat time to sear and get that delicious browned flavor on both sides of your steak, while also ensuring that the inside cooks through without being too overdone.

How do you make London broil tender?

A meat tenderizer may be used to tenderize a London broil. To soften the tough muscle fibers, pound them several times with a meat tenderizer. What you need to do is lightly wrap the meat cut in two waxed papers and lay it over a cutting board here.

The marinade in London Broil is essential since we’re relying on it to help break down some of the connective tissue in this lean meat – and infuse tons of flavor.

You can season the meat with salt and pepper before grilling. Allow an hour for it to soften on the counter. The salt will dissolve from the meat, making it more tender.

Worcestershire sauce is also effective as a meat tenderizer. It contains vinegar, which dissolves the meat fibers.
